About Us

Independent public information directory indexing publicly available county custody records across 356 active counties in 37 covered states.

Important Disclaimer: Non-Government Entity

This website is an independent, privately operated public records directory. We are NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any federal, state, county, or municipal government agency, law enforcement department, or courthouse.

Our Purpose & Coverage Scope

Our mission is to help the public locate publicly accessible records, jail rosters, courthouse contact details, and facility procedures across United States counties. We currently cover 356 active counties across 37 states where county detention administrations maintain open public online rosters. We do not claim 50-state coverage; jurisdictions lacking open digital custody rosters or where records cannot be verified electronically are intentionally omitted to prevent stale or fabricated information.

Data Sources & Accuracy

Information indexed on this website is obtained exclusively from publicly available government websites, sheriff departments, and county clerk portals. While we strive to present accurate and up-to-date links and public roster data, records change continuously as individuals are booked, bailed, or transferred. For official certified records, active warrants, or criminal court proceedings, users must always consult directly with the primary government custodian.

FCRA Compliance

This website is not a Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681). Information provided on this website may not be used for employment screening, tenant background checks, credit evaluations, or any other purpose regulated by the FCRA.

Official Record Verification & Indexing

Every county covered in our directory is verified on a scheduled automated cycle directly against public records published by the county sheriff’s office or detention administration. We record the exact timestamp of each verification. No login, credential, or private system is involved — we index exclusively what the public agency has made openly available to citizens.

We publish the verification timestamp alongside every custody record. Jail populations fluctuate throughout the day, so public custody information is tied to the exact time of verification. If a county’s official portal experiences temporary technical downtime, we preserve the most recent verified records with an archival notice rather than publishing incomplete data.

Each county page links directly to the official government portal, allowing users to verify records against the agency’s primary source at any time.

What We Do Not Publish

  • No booking photographs. We do not collect, host, or display mugshots.
  • No invented values. If an agency does not publish a field — a charge, a bond amount, a facility address — we leave it blank or state that it was not published by the source. We never estimate, infer, or fill a gap from another record.
  • No paid removals. Record removal is always free. We do not charge fees, offer paid expedited removal, or contact anyone asking for payment to take a listing down.
  • No sale of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use criminal record information for advertising targeting.

Educational Resources & Editorial Policy

Alongside indexation of official sheriff rosters, County Jail Rosters maintains public informational guides to help citizens and families navigate pretrial custody, understand bail terminology, and locate official agency contacts.

Statutory Grounding

Our educational content is compiled directly from public state statutes, state freedom of information acts, Eighth Amendment case law, and published detention facility policies.

Official Source Transparency

We prioritize direct outbound links to official county sheriff departments, state court systems, and authorized commissary providers, ensuring users can verify records independently.

Zero Exploitation Policy

We maintain a strict anti-extortion posture: no booking photos (mugshots) are published, records are never commercialized for marketing, and record removal is 100% free.

Corrections & Accountability

If a listing on this site is inaccurate, out of date, or attached to the wrong person, tell us and we will correct it. Email [email protected] with the county, the name as it appears on our page, and what is wrong. Documentation helps but is not required to open a correction.

Initial ticket review is conducted within 24–72 hours, with full verification and directory resolution completed within five business days. All corrections and removals are always free of charge. To request removal of a listing entirely, use our Record Removal Request page.

Removing a listing from this directory does not alter, seal, or expunge the underlying official record, which remains with the agency that created it. An arrest or booking is not a conviction, and everyone listed is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
